Conflict of Interest and Peer Review Process  Becoming a Reviewer for EMID Journals

Conflict of Interest and Peer Review Process

All authors must declare any conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation or outcomes of their research. Conflicts may include financial ties, personal or professional relationships, academic competition, or other affiliations. If no conflict exists, authors must explicitly state this. The corresponding author may sign or e-sign the declaration on behalf of all co-authors, provided that the specific contribution of each author is transparently detailed.

To uphold the highest academic and ethical standards, IJEMID follows a strict Double-Blind Peer Review process in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other, ensuring an impartial and unbiased evaluation.

Key Elements of the IJEMID Double-Blind Peer Review Process

  1. Anonymity and Ethical Assurance

    • Manuscripts are anonymized before reviewer assignment to conceal author identities.

    • Reviewers must declare any conflict of interest or familiarity with the authors and recuse themselves if necessary.

    • The system is designed for confidentiality and ethical handling at every step.

  2. Independent and Confidential Evaluation

    • Each manuscript is reviewed independently by at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.

    • In cases of disagreement or delays, a third reviewer may be assigned to ensure fair judgment.

  3. Review Timeline

    • The entire peer review process typically takes 4 to 8 weeks, covering manuscript screening, reviewer assignment, review completion, editorial decision, and communication with authors.

  4. Rigorous Review Criteria
    Reviewers assess:

    • Alignment with the journal’s aims and scope

    • Originality, significance, and contribution to the field

    • Depth and synthesis of literature review

    • Appropriateness and rigor of methodology and data analysis

    • Clarity of presentation, including tables, figures, and citations

    • Overall quality and suitability for publication

  5. Constructive Feedback and Recommendations

    • Reviews must be specific, constructive, and evidence-based, referencing manuscript sections and relevant literature.

    • Feedback focuses on improving content quality, beyond just grammar or formatting.

    • Reviewers must maintain a respectful, professional tone, even when recommending rejection.

  6. Editorial Decision and Post-Review Process

    • The Co-Editor(s)-in-Chief review all feedback and decide to accept, reject, or request revisions.

    • Revised manuscripts may be re-evaluated by original reviewers or the editorial board.

  7. Reviewer Conduct and Quality Monitoring

    • Reviewer performance is assessed annually for quality, thoroughness, and timeliness.

    • Reviewers with consistently poor performance may be removed from the reviewer database.
